Interdisciplinary Conference on the

Cultural Topographies of Paris

A conference on the above is to be held at the University of Glasgow in mid-September 2003 (exact dates to be confirmed).

This is a preliminary call for papers/sessions.
Suggested topics might include:
- Politics and the topography of culture
- Sessions focusing on specific culturally marked areas (Montmartre, Montparnasse, Les Halles ...)
- Sites of cultural production and distribution as well as reproduction
- Ethnic cultures in Paris
- The banlieue - how/when has it existed?
- Gay/lesbian/bisexual Paris
- Paris within the cultural topography of 'Europe'
- Paris as (a) capital of cinema
- Paris as topographical centre of theory
We would hope to include sessions or papers on literature, film, the performing arts, painting, music, theory and bande dessinée. But this is by no means exhaustive.
